Liposuction (Fat Removal) for a Fitter Body
Liposuction, also known as fat removal, is the process of removing stubborn fat that accumulates in different parts of the body and cannot be eliminated through diet or exercise, using special vacuum systems. Liposuction is not a weight loss method, but an effective surgical procedure applied for regional slimming and body contouring.
Liposuction surgery, which can be applied to adult individuals of all ages, is preferred to give body contours a more aesthetic and proportionate form. The procedure, which can be applied to many different areas such as the abdomen, back, waist, thighs, hips, legs, arms, and jowl, can also be performed together with other surgeries such as neck lift, tummy tuck, or breast reduction.
Application Techniques and Differences
The liposuction procedure can be applied with three different main techniques: classic liposuction, ultrasonic liposuction (VASER), and laser liposuction. In addition, it is classified as dry, wet, or super wet technique according to the amount of fluid applied before the procedure.
Super Wet Technique: It is the most preferred method today. Fat cells are swollen with special fluids and then gently removed with the help of cannulas through small 1 cm incisions.
Ultrasonic Liposuction (VASER): Ultrasonic vibrations are applied to the area where fat will be removed to soften the fat tissues. In this way, fats are removed more easily and smoothly.
Laser Liposuction: It is a method based on more advanced technology. Fat cells are liquefied thanks to laser beams given with 2-3 mm fiber cannulas and absorbed through millimetric incisions. This method is preferred by individuals with aesthetic sensitivity due to the minimum risk of scarring.
Surgery Process and Recovery
During the liposuction operation, local or general anesthesia may be preferred according to the patient's condition. Although some pain is seen in the postoperative period, these pains can usually be controlled within 3-4 days with painkillers recommended by the doctor. Patients can usually return to their social lives within 3 to 7 days.
However, it is necessary to use a liposuction corset (compression garment) for approximately 3 to 6 weeks for the treated area to heal healthily and to maintain the new body form. This corset helps the swelling go down and the skin adapt to its new shape.
