Eyelid Sagging and Aesthetics (Blepharoplasty)
Aging, genetic factors, gravity, and the weakening of facial muscles over time can cause various aesthetic problems around the eyelids. This condition does not only create an aesthetic issue; drooping of the upper eyelids can also narrow the field of vision, leading to functional problems. As a result, the eyes may appear tired, weak, and unhappy. Thanks to eyelid aesthetics (blepharoplasty), it is possible to achieve a younger, more vibrant, and refreshed look both aesthetically and functionally.
Common problems observed around the eyes include sagging of the eyelids, under-eye bags, excess skin on the upper eyelid, wrinkles, and crow’s feet lines. These symptoms can create an impression of an aged, fatigued, and expressionless face. Eyelid aesthetics is an effective and reliable surgical intervention used to eliminate such issues. Especially in individuals aged 35 and above, when skin elasticity decreases, the need for this procedure becomes more significant.
Upper eyelid surgery is performed by removing sagging skin and muscle tissue from the eyelid. During the operation, the incision is made along the natural crease of the eyelid, making postoperative scars almost invisible.
Lower eyelid surgery is performed to correct under-eye bags and looseness. Since the incision is made close to the lash line, the scar is minimal. In some cases, additional procedures such as fat removal (removal of fat pads) or under-eye light filling may also be performed.
Eyelid surgery is performed under local or general anesthesia depending on the patient’s needs and the surgeon’s experience, and typically lasts between 30–60 minutes. The results of the procedure usually last between 7 to 10 years. However, it is important to note that the natural aging process continues. Therefore, adopting a healthy lifestyle, regular skin care, and protection against UV rays are essential to maintain the aesthetic results for a longer time.
Eyelid aesthetics not only has aesthetic benefits but also creates positive psychological effects. Patients appear younger and feel more energetic and confident.
If you are concerned about the tired appearance around your eyes, you can consult a specialist plastic surgeon to determine the most suitable treatment plan for your needs.
