Achieving a Flat and Firm Abdomen with Tummy Tuck Surgery
Excess fat deposits and skin sagging that accumulate over time in the abdominal area, particularly below the navel, can cause aesthetic concerns in both men and women. Such conditions negatively affect a person’s body image and quality of life. Tummy tuck surgery (abdominoplasty) offers an effective and long-lasting solution to these aesthetic problems.
Especially after pregnancy, women may experience loosening of the abdominal muscles and noticeable sagging of the skin. The most effective method to correct these deformities, which cannot be resolved with diet or exercise, is a tummy tuck operation. Similarly, weight fluctuations can also lead to deformities in the abdominal region. Thanks to abdominal aesthetics, individuals can achieve a tighter and flatter abdominal appearance.
The tummy tuck procedure is usually performed with incisions made in the lower abdomen and around the navel. These incisions are planned so that they remain hidden under underwear or swimwear. During the operation, the abdominal muscles are tightened and the weakened abdominal wall is reconstructed. Excess skin is then removed and sutured into its new position, reshaping the abdominal contour.
During surgery, thin tubes called drains are placed under the skin to remove any fluid that may accumulate. The procedure takes an average of 2 to 5 hours. The surgical area is covered with dressings, and the healing process begins. For less noticeable sagging, a mini tummy tuck is preferred. This procedure takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours and usually requires only a single incision.
After tummy tuck surgery, hospitalization for 1 to 3 days may be recommended depending on the patient’s condition. Postoperatively, swelling, tenderness, and pain may occur in the area. These temporary symptoms can be managed with pain relievers prescribed by the doctor. Drains are usually removed within a few days, while stitches are typically removed within 1 to 3 weeks, depending on the patient.
Once the recovery process is complete, patients can generally return to work within 2 to 4 weeks. Postoperative scars gradually fade over time and in most cases become significantly less noticeable within 1 year. With proper care and regular medical follow-up, this process can be completed smoothly.
